Improve access to and utilization of quality services for the management of Moderate Acute Malnutrition for 12,741 U5 children and 7,318 pregnant and breastfeeding women (PBWs) in 4 target woredas across the Somali Region by December 31, 2026

Program Description

Through this program, WFP and CAAP are committed to supporting the Government of Ethiopia’s efforts in achieving zero hunger by ensuring that the short-term food and nutrition needs of children aged 6-59 months and pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls are met through the implementation of:

  • Targeted Supplementary Feeding (TSF) whereby Moderate Acute Malnourished (MAM) children aged 6-59 months and Acutely Malnourished pregnant and lactating women and girls receive specialized nutritious foods to prevent Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and/or support nutritional recovery; and
  • Social and Behavior Change Communications (SBCC) and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) activities.

  • The program is implemented by CAAP in collaboration with the

    • Somali Regional Disaster Risk Management Bureau and
    • Somali Regional Health Bureau.

  • The TSF program directly contributes to the CAAP’s seven-year strategic plan (2024 to 2030), Somali Region Multi-Year Resilience Strategy (2023-2028), the Durable Solutions Strategy 2022-2025, and Ethiopia’s Ten-Year Perspective Development Plan 2020-2030 (10 YDP), Ethiopia, and UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2025-2030), contributing to the country’s vision of becoming a middle-income country by 2030. The program also contributes to Ethiopia’s efforts to achieve the SDGs 2 (Zero Hunger). The TSFP also contributes to the Humanitarian–Development–Peace (HDP) Nexus in the Somali region
