our History

CAAP story and our journey of change

Founded in 2018, Community in Action Against Poverty (CAAP) was established with a vision to address the root causes of poverty faced by women and girls in the Somali region of Ethiopia. Beginning as a small initiative with three volunteers, it has since expanded to 50 woredas, employing over 124 full-time staff (50% female) and 500 temporary staff monthly staff and impacting 918,395 beneficiaries (60% female) through sustainable interventions.CAAP employs a comprehensive strategy, focusing on several core principles:

Leads the design, implementation, and monitoring & evaluation of Food Assistance, Cash-Based Transfer programs, including Vulnerability-Based Targeting and Digital Registration systems.

Project Manager – Health & Nutrition

Fartuun Abdullahi

Provides strategic leadership for the design, implementation, and monitoring & evaluation of CAAP’s Health and Nutrition programs.

We implement integrated educational programs to empower communities with the knowledge and skills necessary to challenge harmful norms, report abuse, and build self-protective mechanisms.

Shelter, Settlements and WASH

We provide safe, dignified housing for crisis-affected populations. Our work supports emergency shelter, transitional housing, and sustainable community rebuilding.

We improve public health and combat malnutrition across Ethiopia. We deliver essential healthcare and nutrition programs, fostering long-term well-being.
